Good to Go September 3, 2010 EP2SA For those of us with insomnia who like noise in the background, this portable TV allows; 1. Your partner to sleep, 2. Great portability, and 3. A reasonable price. The picture is clear and crisp, sound is good. Only drawback is there is no volume control on the remote.... Works for me.
The good and bad August 25, 2010 MikeG We are very pleased with our new "hurricane TV" and Axion's customer service. We were not so impressed with Amazon's customer service. In 2004 we twice were without power for several days. While NOAA weather alerts are good, having the ability to see weather radar of hurricane eye walls and storm bands from local TV stations still on the air was important.
PRODUCT, Five stars.
PROS:
- Reception. Our local TV listings for the Tampa Bay area show 12 broadcast stations. When I did the initial autoscan (outside, with the accessory antenna on the roof of my car), I picked up 26 stations. Good reception with the telescoping antenna, better with the accessory antenna (kind of like a mini-CB antenna with a magnetic base)
- Picture. Much better than expected.
- Setup. Easy to do, with many options for display, sound, and channel selection. Particularly useful is the ability to "skip" some of the 26 channels initially detected for some channels I'll never need.
CONS:
- Battery life. About 1.5 hours with Standard picture option. Somewhat less if you choose the Dynamic option or really crank up brightness. A user-replaceable battery for around $25-$30 would be nice.
- The TV works well with the car adapter, but the car adapter does not recharge the internal battery. For that you need AC power.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
AMAZON, 2 stars.
I ordered the TV 7/24/10 and it arrived 8/2/10, not too bad. But the package did not contain the car adapter described by Amazon on the date I ordered it. I rechecked the description 8/2/10 and it no longer mentioned a car adapter was included (although a picture of a car adapter was still present). The Axion user's guide also did not mention a car adapter was included. I emailed Amazon and was advised to contact the manufacturer, and Amazon provided both toll-free and local phone numbers. When I called the toll-free number I got the automated response that I had dialed a number "that cannot be reached from your calling area". The local number Amazon provided put me in contact with a very nice lady at a State Farm insurance office in Sunnyvale California. Fortunately, the Axion user's manual had phone numbers inside the back cover. However, I was not optimistic that Axion would do anything other than offer to sell me the car adapter.
AXION, 5 stars.
The AXION customer service rep pointed out that a car adapter is not included in their package, but offered to send one to me free of charge if I would simply email the Amazon purchase confirmation. I did so, and the adapter arrived 8 days later. Fantastic!
NOTE: As of today (I checked again) the Amazon product description and details now include the car adapter. I recommend that anyone ordering anything print out the product description on the date you order so that if something changes before your order arrives, you've got some documentation in hand.
digital, portable tv August 22, 2010 Loretta Benoit
Had an unplanned power outage and was very pleased to be able to use this wonderful item. Am able to get the major channels, get a very clear picture and with the antenna, great reception. Overall, am very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone. Thank you.
Best purchase! July 27, 2010 Chandra P. Lopez This has been one of the best purchases I have made. I got this because during Hurricane Ike we didn't know what was going on for 5 days, so we needed a portable TV to watch. This small TV gets a better picture than any of our other TVs in the house! I keep it in the Kitchen to watch the news while I am cooking. The worst thing about it is that it only gets about 3 stations, but that is all we need during power outages to tell us what is going on.
Great TV July 22, 2010 Doxie2x2 For the price and the size and what I wanted it for is great. It is small enough and easy to store. I would recommend this product.
